What this site is

Vent & Vane covers one product category exhaustively: humidifiers, and specifically the three things buyers cannot get straight answers about. What size do I actually need. What will this cost me to own. How do I stop it turning into a culture dish.

Those three run through everything. The sizing hub exists because the field’s own advice contradicts itself by a factor of three and routinely quotes tank capacity where daily output belongs. The cost hub exists because not one competitor we fetched publishes what a humidifier costs after you have bought it. The cleaning hub exists because the pink film everybody finds in their tank is a bacterium, not a mold, and nearly every guide gets that wrong.

Who writes it

Scooter M. - an enthusiast who's genuinely into this. I read the manuals, compile the published specs, and do the math. No lab coat.

That is the whole byline and there is nothing behind it. No editorial team, no expert panel, no medical reviewer, no years of industry experience. When you see one of those on a site like this one, it is worth asking whether the site can evidence it, because a surprising number cannot.

What is genuinely true: 51 pages, 11 products, every published figure read from the manufacturer’s own page and linked so you can check it. That is the work, and it is checkable, which is more than the alternative offers.

What we will never claim

Everyone in this category says they tested twenty humidifiers. We have not tested any, and we say so on every page that ranks anything.

What we did instead: compiled the published specifications from each manufacturer’s own page, computed each unit’s daily output against the floor area it claims to cover, totaled the filter and electricity costs over a season and over five years, and linked every source. All of it is shown and all of it is reproducible. The full method, including four things it genuinely cannot tell you, is on how we pick.

So: no test results, no owned units, no credentials, no scores, and no Review or AggregateRating structured data anywhere on the site. A rating implies an assessment we have not made.

Who owns it

Vent & Vane is operated by Slate Mill Group. It is a publication rather than a shop: there is no storefront, no premises, no service area and no phone number. The only address on this site is info@ventandvane.com, and it is the right one for corrections, questions and anything else.

How it is funded

Affiliate commission. When someone buys through a link here we earn a commission at no extra cost to them. We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and earn from qualifying purchases.

The part that matters: the commission is the same regardless of which unit is ranked first, we accept no free products, and no placement is for sale. If a cheaper machine is the right answer, that is what the page says. The full statement is on affiliate disclosure.

What we get wrong

Some of this will be wrong. Specifications change, manufacturers revise pages, and arithmetic done at speed contains mistakes. When you find one, tell us: a source URL and the figure you think is wrong is enough. We will check it, fix the page, and note the correction on it with a date. That is set out properly in the editorial policy.

There is no version of this site where nothing is ever wrong. There is a version where errors get corrected in public with a date attached, and that is the one we are trying to run.

What we cannot help with

Anything clinical. Several pages here touch health-adjacent questions - dry air and nosebleeds, warm mist and congestion, mold and breathing - and on every one of them the page stops at the same line and points at a clinician. Nobody here holds a medical credential and no page will imply otherwise.
