What we collect

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and which buy links get clicked. It sets cookies and collects the usual: pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, referring site, and how long you stayed. IP addresses are anonymized by Google before storage.

We also record an event when someone clicks an affiliate link, containing the product and the page it was clicked from. That is how we know which recommendations are useful. It does not identify you.

The contact form

If you write to us, we receive the name, email address and message you type. That is delivered to info@ventandvane.com by Microsoft Graph and kept in that mailbox so we can reply and, if you sent a correction, act on it. It is used for nothing else.

The form also records the moment the page loaded and includes a hidden field that real visitors never fill in. Both exist purely to reject automated spam, both are discarded immediately, and neither is stored.

Server logs

Our host, Vercel, keeps standard request logs including IP address and user agent for a limited period as part of operating and securing the site. We do not use them for analytics.

What we do not collect

• No accounts, because there is nothing to log in to.
• No mailing list, because there is no newsletter.
• No advertising cookies, because we run no display advertising.
• No payment information, because nothing is sold here.
• No third-party trackers beyond the analytics described above.

Affiliate links

When you click a buy button you go through an on-site /go/ address and on to the retailer with our tracking tag attached. The retailer then knows you arrived from us and may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy, which is not ours and which we do not control. Amazon’s policy governs anything that happens on Amazon.

That tag is how we get paid. It tells us a sale happened; it does not tell us who you are. The commercial arrangement is described in full on affiliate disclosure.

Who processes your data

• Vercel - hosting and request logs.
• Google - Analytics 4.
• Microsoft - delivery of contact form messages via Graph.
• Amazon - only once you follow an affiliate link and leave this site.

We sell data to nobody, and we share it with nobody beyond that list.

Your choices

• Block analytics. Any content blocker or a browser’s do-not-track setting will stop the Google Analytics script loading. Nothing on this site breaks without it.
• Ask for deletion. Email info@ventandvane.com and we will delete your correspondence from our mailbox.
• Do not use the form. Email us directly instead if you prefer.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page changes with it. There is no version of this site where that date moves without something actually changing.
