Buy the OasisMist 450S if you want the quietest machine on this site beside your bed and you are willing to size it as a bedroom unit rather than the 430 square feet on the box. Levoit publishes under 26 dB on low cool mist, which is the lowest figure anywhere in our set, and it publishes under 41 dB on high warm mist too - the unflattering end, which almost nobody prints.

The thing to know before you buy is that the 280 W rating on the specification table is the heater. Run warm mist every night through a heating season and the electricity is about $75 rather than about $7. On cool mist alone this is a fraction of that, so you are not forced to pay it - but you did buy it, and whether you will use it is the question that decides whether this or the cheaper Classic 300S is the right machine.

Publishing both ends of the noise range

Two figures: under 26 dB on low cool mist, under 41 dB on high warm mist. That is a specification rather than a claim, and the fact that Levoit prints the loud end as well as the quiet one is the single most creditable thing on this page.

Hold it against the alternative. Honeywell's published noise position on the HCM350 is "up to 25% quieter than comparable humidifiers" - a relative claim against an unnamed comparison, with no decibel figure anywhere. AIRCARE publishes no noise figure at all for the MA0800. A buyer choosing a bedroom humidifier on noise can hold Levoit to a number and cannot hold either of the others to anything. The quietest humidifiers is ranked on exactly that distinction, which is why its order looks like a Levoit list.

One caveat on reading the low figure. Under 26 dB is quoted on low cool mist, which is also the setting the 45-hour run time is quoted on. If you run it on high, or with the heater engaged, you are at the other published number. Both ends are honest; neither describes the other setting.

The arithmetic, and the 2.3x gap

Two readings of that worth having. First, 2.3x is the best ratio in the Levoit range, which tells you something mildly reassuring about this specific claim - the OasisMist 1000S is 3.2x and the Superior 6000S is 5.1x. Second, 0.63 gallons a day is almost exactly what the six-liter Classic 300S implies, from a tank a quarter smaller. Same daily water, fewer hours between refills: about five eight-hour nights per fill here against about seven on the 300S. What the smaller body costs you is refill interval, not output.

So size it as a bedroom machine - 150 to 200 square feet - and it is comfortably inside its own numbers. Size it at 430 and you have the commonest complaint in the category, which is covered on why your humidifier is not raising the humidity.

What the heater actually costs

This is the number to decide on, because it is the largest running-cost difference in the whole category and it is entirely under your control.

We are being careful there deliberately. Levoit publishes one wattage for this machine and it is the heater-engaged figure, so we cannot tell you what it draws on cool mist. What we can say is that the heater dominates by roughly a factor of ten across the warm-mist units in our set, and that on cool mist this is an ultrasonic machine with a small transducer and a fan. If the cool-mist draw matters to your decision, it is a number Levoit has not printed and we are not going to invent.

Auto Mode is the feature worth the money

Levoit's published wording is that you "customize your preferred humidity level in VeSync and Auto Mode will maintain it". That is a humidistat behavior - a target the machine holds and stops at - rather than an app that merely switches it on, and it is the one premium in this category we think reliably buys a better outcome.

It matters most here because of what this machine is: a bedside unit that runs unsupervised for eight hours in a closed room. Without a stop, a humidifier runs until the tank is empty, and in a small bedroom that is how you get past the EPA's 50 percent ceiling and condensation on the window. Running a humidifier overnight covers the unattended case, and best smart humidifiers covers the sensor caveat - a sensor inside the machine's own housing sits in the most humid air in the room.

There is also a Sleep Mode, published as keeping the space humidified at the lowest mist level. Useful, and not the same thing: it is a fixed low output rather than a target.

Three consumables, no intervals

Worth laying out, because the box contents make this look like a filter-free machine and it is not quite. Levoit supplies three aroma pads, three absorption pads and two water filter sponges, one of each pre-installed. None of the three has a published replacement interval.

In practice this is still a low-consumable machine - a sponge and a pad are not a wick, and there is no 30-to-60-day cycle here. But "no published interval" is not the same as "never needs replacing", and this site says that about every maker that leaves the number off the page. Use the functional signals: a sponge or pad that smells after a proper clean is a part at the end of its life. Cleaning a humidifier filter versus replacing it covers the diagnosis, and the aroma pad specifically should be replaced rather than washed when you change scents - see can you put essential oils in a humidifier?.

On the health wording

Levoit's page for this unit says humidity "helps hair and skin retain moisture, as well as helps ease nightly congestion and coughing", and markets a "Humidity at Night" feature on that basis. That is Levoit's claim and we are reporting it as Levoit's claim.

We do not evaluate it. This site reads specification sheets; it is not qualified to assess a respiratory claim and does not publish one of its own. If that is why you are buying a humidifier, the person to ask is a clinician - the position is set out on our editorial policy and applied consistently, which is also why there is no page here targeting congestion or cough.

Who should buy it

  • Anyone choosing a bedroom humidifier on noise. Under 26 dB on low cool mist is the lowest published figure on this site, and both ends of the range are printed.
  • Anyone who wants warm mist in a small body. Warm mist in a cold bedroom is genuinely pleasant, and this is the smallest machine we cover that offers it.
  • Anyone who wants a target rather than a switch. Auto Mode holds a humidity level you set, which is the feature that makes an unattended overnight run sensible.
  • Anyone who wants an aroma pad done properly. The pad is in the airstream rather than the tank, and three come in the box.

Who should not

  • Anyone buying the 430 sq ft figure. Its own tank and run time imply about 188. This is a bedroom machine.
  • Anyone who will run warm mist all winter on a tight budget. 280 W rated is about $75 a season of nights against roughly $7 for cool mist, and Levoit does not publish the cool-mist draw separately.
  • Anyone who hates refilling. A 4.5-liter tank at 0.63 gallons a day is about five eight-hour nights. The 6 L Classic 300S is seven and the 10 L OasisMist 1000S is about twelve.
  • Anyone on hard water who will not use low-mineral water. It is ultrasonic on cool mist, so your tap water's minerals go into the room as white dust. An evaporative machine is the type that tolerates hard tap water.

The summary is unusually simple for this site: Levoit publishes more about this machine than most makers publish about anything, the one number it withholds is the one its coverage claim rests on, and the figure it publishes best - the noise - happens to be the right figure for the room this unit is built for.

The picks, in full

Levoit OasisMist 450S

Top pick · A quiet bedside unit with a heater

Levoit OasisMist 450S

Warm and cool mist in a 4.5-liter body with a published sub-26 dB cool setting. Small, quiet, and no filter subscription.

Under 26 dB on low cool mist is the kind of figure that decides whether a machine stays in a bedroom, and Levoit publishes both ends of the range rather than just the flattering one. The 41 dB high warm figure is honest and worth knowing before you buy.

0.64 gallons a day implied on low puts this in the same real-world class as the Classic 300S despite a smaller tank: same daily water, fewer hours between refills. If the 300S is too tall for a nightstand, this is the same machine in a shorter body with a heater added.

The 280 W rating is the heater, as it is on the LV600S. On cool mist the draw is a fraction of that. If you never use warm mist you are not paying for it, but you did buy it.

What works

  • Publishes noise at both extremes rather than only the quiet one
  • Warm and cool in a body small enough for a nightstand
  • No wick filter to buy on a schedule

What does not

  • 4.5 L means more refills than the 6 L and 10 L units for the same daily output
  • 280 W rated with the heater on
  • The 430 sq ft claim is about 2.3x what its published tank and run time imply

Skip this ifyou want the biggest room this brand covers. The 6-liter LV600S publishes an output figure and a larger claim for similar money.

Levoit Classic 300S

Pick 2 · A bedroom you refill twice a week

Levoit Classic 300S

A 6-liter tank, a genuinely wide top-fill opening and no filter to buy. Its own numbers describe a 190 sq ft machine, not the 505 sq ft on the box.

The interesting number is not 6 liters, it is 60 hours. A 1.58-gallon tank that lasts 60 hours on low is moving 0.63 gallons of water a day, and 0.63 gallons a day is what covers about 187 square feet at the rate we derive from Aprilaire's own published sizing. That is a bedroom. It is not the 505 square feet on the specification table.

Both figures are true and they describe different settings. Levoit publishes the endurance of the quietest setting and the ceiling of the loudest, and never the output that connects them, so a buyer has no way to check the coverage claim. That is not a Levoit problem, it is a category problem, and it is the reason every roundup here shows the implied figure beside the claimed one.

What you are actually buying is the absence of a filter. No wick means no 30-to-60-day replacement cycle and no annual filter bill, and it also means every mineral in your tap water leaves the machine as white dust or stays behind as scale. Run low-mineral water or accept the descaling, which the EPA's own humidifier guidance is blunt about.

What works

  • No wick or replacement filter, so the running cost after purchase is water and 26 watts
  • 26 W is genuinely low: at the June 2026 US average tariff a full heating season of overnight running is a few dollars
  • The top-fill opening is wide enough to get a hand and a brush inside, which is most of what makes a humidifier easy to keep clean

What does not

  • The 505 sq ft coverage claim cannot be reconciled with the published tank and run time
  • Ultrasonic, so hard water becomes airborne white dust unless you use low-mineral water
  • Levoit publishes no gallons-per-day figure at any setting

Skip this ifyour water is hard and you will not commit to distilled. An ultrasonic unit atomizes whatever is dissolved in the tank, and this one has no wick to catch it.

Levoit LV600S Hybrid

Pick 3 · The one unit here that publishes an output figure

Levoit LV600S Hybrid

Warm and cool mist from a 6-liter tank, and the only Levoit in this set that publishes a maximum output. On warm mist it genuinely covers a floor of a house.

This is the only unit in the portable group whose maker publishes an output rate, and publishing it is worth crediting. 550 mL an hour is 13.2 liters a day, which is 3.49 gallons a day, which covers roughly 1,030 square feet at our derived rate. That is more than its own 753 sq ft claim, so for once the box is conservative.

The catch is the setting. 3.49 gallons a day on maximum warm mist empties a 6-liter tank in about eleven hours and draws 280 watts while it does it. On the lowest setting the same machine moves 0.76 gallons a day and covers about 224 square feet. One box, a four-and-a-half-fold range, and only the two ends published.

280 watts is the number to think about if you plan to run warm mist all winter. Boiling water is not free, and this is the page where that becomes a real line on a bill rather than a footnote.

What works

  • Publishes an actual output rate, which almost nobody in this category does
  • Warm mist is genuinely useful in a cold room and slightly reduces microbial growth in the tank
  • 6 liters with a 753 sq ft claim that its own maximum output can actually support

What does not

  • 280 W rated: warm mist all season is a real electricity cost, not a rounding error
  • Maximum output empties the tank in about eleven hours
  • The gap between lowest and highest setting is roughly 4.5x, and only the two extremes are published

Skip this ifyou want to run it flat out overnight and forget it. At the published maximum it needs refilling before morning.

Questions people actually ask

How quiet is the Levoit OasisMist 450S?

Levoit publishes under 26 dB on low cool mist, which is the lowest published figure of any unit we cover, and under 41 dB on high warm mist. Publishing both ends rather than only the flattering one is to its credit - Honeywell's position on the HCM350 is "up to 25% quieter than comparable humidifiers" with no decibel figure at all, and AIRCARE publishes none for the MA0800.

What size room is the OasisMist 450S good for?

About 188 square feet on its own published figures: a 1.19 gallon tank lasting up to 45 hours on low implies 0.63 gallons a day, which covers roughly 188 square feet at the rate we derive from Aprilaire's published pairs. Levoit claims 215 to 430 square feet. Treat it as a bedroom machine and it is comfortably inside its own numbers.

How much does the OasisMist 450S cost to run?

On warm mist, about $74.77 for a 182-night heating season of eight-hour runs, because Levoit rates it at 280 W with the heater engaged. On cool mist it is a fraction of that - but Levoit publishes no separate cool-mist wattage, so we cannot give you the figure. For scale, a comparable 26 W cool-mist unit is $6.94 for the same season.

How often do you refill the OasisMist 450S?

About every five eight-hour nights on the low setting, from a 1.19 gallon tank at an implied 0.63 gallons a day. That is the same daily output as the six-liter Classic 300S from a smaller tank, so what the compact body costs you is refill interval rather than capacity.

Can you use essential oils in the OasisMist 450S?

Yes, on the aroma pad - Levoit's wording is "Aromatherapy: Add fragrant essential oils to the aroma pad", and three pads come in the box with one pre-installed. Not in the water tank: Levoit's aroma-pad page says "Don't add essential oil into the water tank and base". Replace the pad rather than washing it when you change scents.

Does the OasisMist 450S have a humidistat?

Effectively yes. Levoit's published wording is that you customize your preferred humidity level in the VeSync app and Auto Mode will maintain it, which is a target the machine holds rather than remote on-off. That is the feature that makes an unattended overnight run sensible. There is also a Sleep Mode, which is a fixed lowest-output setting rather than a target.

OasisMist 450S or Classic 300S?

The 450S if you want warm mist, the quietest published figure on this site, or a shorter body for a nightstand. The Classic 300S if you want a longer refill interval and a lower electricity ceiling - same implied 0.63 gallons a day, a six-liter tank instead of 4.5, and 26 W rather than 280 W rated. They are close to the same machine in different shapes.

Does the OasisMist 450S need filters?

No wick, but three parts with no published interval: a water filter sponge, an absorption pad and an aroma pad, with two or three of each supplied. That is a much lower consumable burden than an evaporative unit's 30-to-60-day wick, and "no published interval" is not the same as "never". Replace any of them that smells after a proper clean.
